KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia made a clean sweep of the 13 gold medals at stake in the diving event which concluded today.

The Hanis Nazirul Jaya Surya and Jellson Jabillin pair completed the gold medal collection in diving when they topped the 10m platform men's rhythmic event.

The national divers accumulated 384.12 points to ensure that the final gold medal belonged to Malaysia. Earlier, the national women's pair of Leong Mun Yee and Traisy Vivien Anak Tukiet also grabbed the gold after amassing 300.36 points.

Overall, national diving head coach, Yang Zhuliang is very satisfied with the performance of the national diving squad, particularly the young divers who were making their first appearance at the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games 2017 (KL2017).

Previously, the coach from China was said to have made a bold move in including four young divers to carry the national challenge at the biennial games.

But based on the excellent achievement, he concluded that his gamble had paid off and had in fact produced results that were beyond expectation.

"For example, young divers like Kimberly Bong, I think she has very good personal skills. And Nazirul, I think he's quite good.

"Because for the next Olympic Games, we must make sure Malaysia has a future (for divers). Not just in the SEA Games," he said.

According to Zhuliang, the young divers would undergo training together with the senior squad in China, besides exposing them to bigger championships to gain experience.

There were four new faces, namely, Kimberly in the women's individual 10m platform, Gabriel Gilbert Daim who paired with Pandelela Rinong in the team diving, and Jellson who partnered Hanis Nazirul.

Jellson was also paired with Leong Mun Yee for the 10m platform mixed rhythmic event.
