Taekwondo Squad Make Amends, Clinch Two Silver, Two Bronze

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 29 (Bernama) -- After a dismal day yesterday when they only won a bronze medal, the national taekwondo squad made amends by winning two gold and two silver on the final day of the taekwondo competition in the Kuala Lumpur SEA Games at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre today.

The first silver was contributed by Nur Dhia Liyana Shaharuddin who lost 39-1 in the final to Panipak Wongpattanakit of Thailand in the women's kyorugi below 49kg category. The bronze was shared by Timor Leste's Ana Da Costa Da Silva Pinto Belo and Dha Ysi Oo Julios of Myanmar.

Muhammad Iskandar Zulkanain Ahmad then delivered the second silver in the men's kyorugi 58kg category. He lost 33-7 in the final to Tawin Hanprab of Thailand.

Tee Chong Sheng and Nurul Nur Hafizzah Mahdi contributed a bronze each in the men's kyorugi below 63kg land women's kyorugi below 73kg categories respectively.

Team manager A. Jayarajan said the KL Games were a good learning ground for the national exponents.

"I am confident that the experience gained will help us in the SEA Games to come," he said.

Malaysia's final haul was three gold, four silver and five bronze. In the last edition in Singapore two years ago, Malaysia's haul was three silver and three bronze.
